September is Self Care Awareness Month
Self-care is an umbrella term that describes everything that you do, deliberately, for your mental, physical, and emotional well-being. It’s a critical part of keeping yourself healthy, however, many of us ignore it!
Self-care encourages you to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself, and through doing that, considering how caring for yourself can affect how you care for others. When you pay attention to your well-being, you’re not considering your needs alone- as the saying goes, “you can not give to others what you don’t have yourself”.
Benefits:
improves your mood and energy levels
leads to greater resilience across all areas of life
increases your productivity
fosters a healthy work-life balance
translates to better physical health
Self-care is a personal journey and individual to your preferences. What motivates you and inspires you might be different than your neighbor, friend, coworker, or family member. Committing to finding ways to destress, express yourself, and live your best life is like committing to plans with friends- you wouldn’t back out on them, why would you back out on yourself?
